port surgery tomorrow - UPDATE

so, i have my old port removed and replaced tomorrow, as well as having a big stretched scar cut out. i have a really bad feeling about it. much more than my other surgeries. i dont know why. perhaps its because im not feeling well at the moment but that doesnt seem to feel like the reason. hmmm. i wish we had people who are 'dedicated port placers' instead of just grabbing any ole surgeon who maybe only does a few a year. it would certainly make me feel alot better about it all even though i know my surgeon is good. argh. i think i might ask for pre meds when i get there otherwise i might start blubbering!

Breath in, breath out....relax! All will be alright. I do agree that having a "Port Team" like my hospital has an "IV Team" would be ideal. That way the have the expertise & patience to place it in more accomodating places, but in the real world I guess it doesnt work like that!

I sincerely hope all goes well tomorrow and I would be apprehensive as well. Can I ask why you are having your port re-done? I hope you have a good cf team and people that care around you. I will be thinking of you and hoping for ther best.

Just curious, are you having it done under general or local anasthetic? I had my first two under general and my last one under local..

everything went fine yipee! i got to go home tonight as im doing so well and im in hardly any pain. i wish i had my ports in my upper chest before. less pain and i cant even feel or see it! just hoping that everything goes smoothly from here on, oh, and that my lungs dont get any worse. my nerves were eased when the surgeon said the port rep was going to be supervising and the staff were all reassuring. dont know what id do without my surgeon she is great!

i have mine under general shamrock. id never have mine under local *shudder*. i had to have a general anyway as there was quite a bit to do.

I am so glad to hear that things went well. Curious tho since I dont have a port (yet)......are you able to do treatments (vest or manual CPT) while it heals & how does it affect your coughing while healing?

Glad to hear that everything went well. I had the same question as Melissa - are you able to do your treatments or do you need to wait?

thanks everyone! im holding off on physio for this week. i could probably do it but because i have percussion it might be too much. coughing is fine with it. when they were on my lower chest it would absolutely kill to cough when healing, but im not getting much pain at all when coughing on the upper chest.

I'm so glad everything went well for you! I too am just seeing this for the first time. I get that anxious, nauseous feeling whenever I'm going to have something done medically. Even if its just PFT's!

I'm just so happy you're feeling well. Please keep us posted!
