Possibly changing from pancreatic sufficient to insufficient

Did he replace the lost calories from the soda and cookies with other foods or just stop eating them? Has he increased exercise intensity/frequency recently? I'm PS but still require more calories than the average person. I'm positive that's the case because I took a college course on nutrition and the calculations for my caloric consumption, etc did not match how much I actually weigh and my professor told me I must have made a mistake (we went over it and I didn't).

I'm just saying that for example 200-300 calories a day less would cause that much weight loss over 3 months.

I think I would try and do the test.

I have always been pancreatic insufficient, but I noticed it got 'worse' when I was around 20 years old I think. I need more enzymes (I took very little at first, now I take more but still not as much as I know others need) and notice it when I haven't taken Creon while when I was younger I could go without and didn't really nocite it. Now I get aches and terrible diarrea..

So I think it can definately change.

As our daughter's PI became more pronounced (and prior to her dx), symptoms other than her BM's were: she became lethargic and just wanted to lay around (VERY unusual for a three-year old); the muscle tone in her arms and legs was noticeably absent; and she had horrible, horrible stomach cramps. Her belly was very distended and she did end up having a rectal prolapse. So, just some other things to look for.

Hopefully it is just his change in diet.

I would say to try to do the test. Just to put your mind at ease. But since you said it may be difficult to get it done then I would keep a close eye on him. If his weight keeps dropping, he uses the bathroom more and they become less formed then I would defintiley push for the test.

It does sound like his diet is just improving and therefore making his BM's more "normal" so to speak. I know with me when I am needing to up my dosage of enzymes (I have always been PI) I get bloated, severe stomach cramps and I use the bathroom way more than is needed, sometimes up to 8 times a day!
