Anyone every try pdrainage with the vest on? I have and it seems to work well.</end quote></div>

Wait, what do you do? Do you lay on the floor with it on? I'm curious to how that would work.

here's an idea - cough up some sputum into a paper cup. not saliva. a good honk of sputum.

turn it upside down and see how long it takes for it to slide down the side of the cup.

that's why Children's Hospital of Los Angeles uses the term "postural drainage" meaning laying on a slant while clapping. and why it didn't even occure to me that someone would just lay on a slant to drain mucus out of their lungs. man if it were only that simple.....

if laying on a slant were effective to get mucus up from the depths of your lungs, insurances wouldn't pay $16,000 for a Vest.

but using gravity to assist with legitimate CPT of any form (HFCC, manual, etc) can only help <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Actually Dave (RIP) use to do that. He tried to get me to try it, but since my vest was in the living room I would have to lay on the floor & that isnt comfortable.

Gravity alone might not get down into the hard core stuck sputum, but it definitely helps. Besides the times I did try PD I have also taken naps before my treatments & the stuck comes up much easier for awhile. BUT as said for that deep down stuff thats really sticking it might not be enough.

Sometimes I lay on the sofa but I used to lay on my bed with pillows propped up.

Since my vest is now in the living room (tivo purposes) I either lay flat or on my side while napping (not really postural drainage) or (and this is hard to explain) lay on my back with my knees up and my back actually off the sofa being held up by my legs and tilted in a doward position (like you're doing a situp but keep your back off the ground/sofa.) Sometimes I put my feet up on the wall and back and butt against the back of the sofa with my head and lungs tilted in a downward postion. Sorry, no pictures.

well from the general consensus, it seems that just laying there and draining after I do my vest or clapping probably won't do much. The vest alone is enough I suppose. It makes me wonder why my mother and my pediatric team used to have me just lay there propped on pillows after all clapping was done...what was the point?
