predisone vs. exercise

I really rely on prednisone as a therapy of last resort. It always seems to give me a bit of a kick for my FEV1. The kick tends to stick around for a while....maybe a few months. Anyway, I have a couple of new docs that are not fans of steroids at all. They like to treat the infection, do IV's, look at all other avenues, and avoid steroids all together. They hate the risks of them. Personally, I am not a big fan of coming OFF of them; but, I LOVE being on them.

Maybe I need to retrain MY thinking. Because it does not make sense to rely on something like a steroid to give me a kick. I HAVE ordered NAC this week and I am going to start using that next week and I think maybe I need to think more about controlling inflamamation through exercise.....more INTENSE exercise.
I think I really lean on what drugs can do for me and I forget about the tremendous benefits of exercise and get lazy in that department. FYI, I have used steroids about 3x/year over the last few years.

I guess my question is....do you think a GOOD exercise routine can be as effective or even better than prednisone for controlling inflammation and keeping us nice and open.

Personally, I stick to inhaled steroids for inflammation( flovent, flonase etc.). I did a long course of oral steroids once and probably will never consider taking them again. You are right, I also get mad energy when I am on them, but the side effects are just too great for me to consider.

I'm not sure how much exercise will affect inflammation, but it sure will do tons of good for airway clearance and general CV health. I am not as active as i should be either, partly because I HATE cold weather and remain pretty sedentary in the winter, in the spring and summer though I try to stay as active as I can.

I should also point out for the younger folks, my health really didn't start to decline until I stopped being active, so don't get lazy keep active!

ahaha my doctors are the opposite. will prescribe steroids up the ying yang (except for the ones I want), yet they don't seem to like iv's.

cardio is important if you want to help your lungs. skipping rope, jogging, etc.
