Prednisone side effects

So because of this newest cold I have I got myself a lovely dose of prednisone. At first I was somewhat afraid to take it because of all of the nasty side effects it can produce. I was on it in April and I felt fabulous, my lungs were great and my joints felt better than ever...but it did squat for my sinuses (which is what I was on it for at the time). So I started it this morning and was fine all day, then got it the car to go home and my ankles started to feel somewhat sore. When I got home, they continued to feel sore and very cold, like my circulation was bad. They are not bruised or swollen.

I am wondering if this is a side effect of the prednisone? Has anyone had this happen before? I am assuming (since my joints felt better the last time I was on it) that this feeling will go away after a few doses...has anyone had that happen to them? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am going to stay on the med unless my symptoms get worse of course, but wanted to see what the "druggies" say...and I mean that in the nicest way possible...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/pills.gif" border="0">

As I've stated a couple of times on this board, I suspect that some joint issues are due to infection in the joints. If that is true, then it would make sense to me that prednisone could cause some discomfort early on. My assumption would be that the body is trying to fight whatever has settled in the joints. I wouldn't personally worry about it at this point. My experience has been that any time I was put on antibiotics and/or steroids to fight infection, my pain in the infected spots initially increased as my body finally went to serious war with the bugs gnawing on me. Then in a day or two, the pain would subside as the infection actually got reduced.

Good luck with this.

I never really thought of it that way. I always just figured if you were going to have joint pains it would be before the drugs started, but what you are saying does make sense to me. I have gotten these same pains before, but maybe like you say, it is with the abx AND the infection. Hmmm...something to watch for next time. Thanks to both of you!

I never really thought of it that way. I always just figured if you were going to have joint pains it would be before the drugs started, but what you are saying does make sense to me. I have gotten these same pains before, but maybe like you say, it is with the abx AND the infection. Hmmm...something to watch for next time. Thanks to both of you!
