Hi everyone,

Is anyone here on a low dose of 5mg daily of prednisone? Just curious how you all handle this terrible inflammation in your lungs. I have bronchectasis (sp?)in my right upper lobe,

Hope you are all well!

Ah wonderful Prednisone,

I'm on it from time to time for basic inflammation. I find it helps if you can handle the side effects. I don't like it, but sometimes I really need it. I have bad inflammation too. Also, I don't know if you're doc has suggested it, but I also started daily Pulmocort in my nebulizer. That stuff is very good. Helps me sleep. It's an inhaled steroid.
I also do daily Advair inhaler.

If you're not already, maybe bring these up to your provider?

Pulmocort is a little like albuterol in that you feel similar after using it. But, Pulmocort has cortosone in it, a steroid. So, it reduces inflammation better, and it's meant to last longer. I use it once a day.

I prefer using it than using oral steroids every day, but when I'm really sick I do use them sometimes.

No,
pulmicort is not at all like albuterol.
Albuterol is fast-acting (relatively), a bronchodilator, not a steroid...
pulmicort is slow acting steroid like flovent, azmacort
Albuterol works on the muscles circling the airways...
pulmicort works to reduce the inflammation in the tissue

Note,

That I said it's only like Albuterol in that-of course in my experience only-it makes you feel similar after you do it.

I then pointed out that it is a steroid. And albuterol is not. I thought that was understood.

Either way, I'd pick it up with your doctor, Dee.

I hope that you are finding some relief for that annoying tight feeling. Other than what the doctor typically prescribes me for inflammation, I generally just deal with it. I wish there was something else! The only thing is at night, if it's unbearable and I can't sleep I'll use Vicks Vapor rub on my neck, chest and under my nose. And maybe a cup of hot herb tea to relax me.

I definately think that relaxing as much as possible helps.

Christian - has your doc ever talked to you about using a pulmicort turboinhaler? Its a puffer. I would think that would be much easier for you, then having to do yet another neb.

ugh...prednisone doesn't like me at all! The last time I was on it was right before I ended up in the hospital on IV meds. Not only did I get thrush really badly among other things, but it made my blood sugars go up so high that while in the hospital, my doc was ready to diagnose me with diabetes.
