Prednisone

Just wondering...when you are put on prednisone (I know it is for inflammation) what are your symptoms that cause you to request it or have it prescribed.

Also, does it lessen the effectiveness of inhaled antibiotics? I assume it does sense it weakens the immune system?

For me I am prescribed prednisone if I feel extremely tight and am feeling inflammed. Sometimes though my old doc just prescribed it for me. For me I don't feel it made antibiotics less effective but I never pair attention to it that much.

I know when I have taken it I most always start to breathe easier - not as tight in my chest. My cough sounds better too not as inflammed sounding.

I only used it during my problems last year. The reason I went on it was because my airways were so closed up that the nebs werent doing much so I could get anything up besides the fact that I just couldnt breath. I am not aware of it interferring with the antibiotics, but they might.

For me it caused havic on my sugars. I am not a diabetic, but my sugars were all over the board. And the sweats....OMG I felt like a stuffed pig over an open fire!

My daughter gets's prescibed it when she is coughing too much.
It works really well and I don't think it interferes with her antibiotics.

My doc gives me predinsone so give the IV meds a "boost". I think it makes them work harder, or makes them stronger. I guess it works b/c I'm finally over what I'v been fighting for 3 months.

If I feel tight or short of breath. That rarely happens for me, and prednisone is a last resort drug for me b/c I hate the side effects and don't tolerate it well.

Thanks,

My chest has been tight for some time now, but I'm going off the TOBi soon so I think it will go away, but if not a short stint of prednisone is probably in the cards.
