Pregnant and I have a cold!

Okay so all week I have been fighting a cold. I am 16 weeks pregnant and my OBGYN said I could have a z-pak. I started that on Tuesday but have not been taking anything for my runny nose. Any suggestions? Any tips on getting better quicker? I have been working from home and taking it very easy but can't seem to shake it- going on third day now-

Thanks-

The z-pack should help the runny nose, it does for me usually. If not I'd irrigate my sinuses with salt water. If you want to avoid a med, this is the best way to do it. Salt water almost always kicks out nasal congestion for me. As far as meds, I think they told me I could use Rhinocort during my preg if I have sinus flareups.

what about zinc like zicam? i know its better to start it at the beginning of an illness but it may do some good and i don't think it would be harmful although i don't know for sure.

Unfortunately, a cold just has to run its course--it's the miserable feeling you get with it that you try to fight. The only good thing is rest, vitamins, and good old fashioned home-made chicken soup. There's the "grandma" advice! Hope you feel better soon though. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I got sick for the first time this weekend while pregnant. Just seems to be a common cold. I'm working diligently to fit lung congestion.
My OB said NO ZINC. Although there hasn't been any fetus testing done with Zinc there has been trials completed with children who showed problems with it. She said it's not worth the risk. She said I could take Sudafed and Tylenol. I hope this helps.
