Sonia,
I am not sure I have answers to your questions and I am not an expert on this, but if you search on the net you can find some studies on probiotics. I am not sure if you will find anything that pertains directly to cf, but you will see some that tend to show things that help with side effects of cf. ie. We tend to use antibiotics often and many of us are on them all the time, ie azithromycin. It is known that antibiotics kill the good bacteria that exists in our gut. This bacteria is needed for a proper immune system, help in digestion, keep fungus at bay, etc. Probiotics claim to restore this, like yogurt, etc, but in higher amounts. Are all brands of probiotics successful at restoring this, probably not. Which ones are, I have no idea. I decided to try the Primal life ultra (5 billion CFU) based on reading about it. I told my doctor at my last appt that I was going to try it and he had no problem with it, and even thought it was a good idea. Note I am still trying to convince my doctor about the eflow, so he is pretty conservative about things.</end quote>
Excellent info, thanks! This is what I thought they were, as I'd been put on acidophulus (?spelling) when I was a kiddo in the hospital on IVs, but no one has ever done so since. I got the impression from the other posts that perhaps there was some magical thing it does for CFers to be on it continually. I do agree it sounds like one of those things that seems good to be on for anyone, CF or not. I will look into it or just eat more activia every day! LOL <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
