Are there any risks to CF health or BF if I take a POP? I have not had a period yet but don't want to risk becoming pregnant again right now. Does it cause any annoying side effects or weight gain? Can I start it before I've had my period? Does Amelia need to be older and on solids first? I love nuvaring but it is an L3, the POPs are L2's.

POPs are pretty much the standard for use during breastfeeding. I wouldn't worry about giving it a try. But you have to be VERY careful with them - take them at the same time every day and not skip any doses. Another option is an IUD.

I breastfed the twins with POPs from 8 weeks postpartum to 6 months postpartum. I didn't notice any side effects (emotional, physical). I also started the POPs before I had a period. Then at 6 months after the twins were fully weaned I went straight to Lo-Ovral (regular BCP) and still never had a period. (I don't take the placebo's)
