Pseudomonal pneumonia

I just got home after having an outpatient picc line put in. On my paper work it says diagnoses "pseudomonal pneumonia." Is that the same as a typical PA infection, common with cf, or is this different?

I would think with pneumonia I would at least have a fever. My fever has been higher than 99.3. Most of the time I don't have one.

No it's not different.
The definition of pneumonia is " infection of the lungs".
Your disagnosis is "pseudomonal pneumonia" which is "infection of the lungs caused by pseudomonas".

Looks weird to see it written down tho', doesn't it.

i still don't get pseudonomas despite having an explanation. there is talk of culturing these germs/ bugs. does that mean they grow like mushrooms in your lungs?

Pseudomonas grows everywhere. There is really no way to avoid it. It particularly likes marshy areas. People with "dry" lungs can enhale it without becoming colonized with it because their luns are too dry to make a ood environment. On the other hand people with CF have "juicy" luns and when they enhale pseudomonas the pseudomonas can continue to live in their luns. So, yes, pseudomonas kinds of hans out in your luns - but more like alae (if it is mucoid pseudo) than like mushrooms.

When you enhale TOBI you kill off some of the pseudo - enough so that it doesn't clog thins up so much - but you can't kill it off. The luns of someone with bronchiectasis are just too neat a place for the pseudo to grow for you to ever be able to kill it off entirely.
