pseudomonas???

Preventing her from playing in the dirt would not prevent pseudomonas. You wouldn't want her to be in a bubble her whole life either. The best things you can do for your daughter is to be completely compliant with meds/CPT, practice good hygiene and be sure she gets plenty of exercise.

Pseudomonas does tend to recur, but it is not a death sentence. I've had pseudomonas for 17 years, and for 9 of them I needed no hospitalizations whatsoever. For the last 8 years, I have been hospitalized only once a year other than the year I was pregnant with Alex. I currently am on antibiotics, but in May my FEV1 was at 80%. Obviously every person is unique, but you will meet many people on this site who have pseudomonas and are older.

Today is my first day ever joining this site, and I see people like you and smile because (im in college for RN almost finished) but with everyday that goes by I am educated more and more from ordinary people like my daughter and I thought I was all alone when this first came about. (with the CF n' all). So once she gets the pseudomonas will she always have it or will it go away with proper meds?

Out of all the bugs we can culture.....it is the most common. It also is not the worst.

It can become a real problem if regular sputum cultures, check ups & treatments are not followed.

Once cultured....ideally you want to erradicate it. Sadly that doesnt mean someone will never culture it again.

Once a CFer is colonized (beyond the point of erradication), its a matter of keeping it at bay.

I dont want to make it sound like a walk in the park because it can be a scary time.
