Hi, It's Kathy (Coll's Mom). Coll pulled a muscle in her lower back this morning coughing. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? She's putting heat on it. Thanks, Kathy

I have done that, it's annoying. I would just do what you said. It will settle down in a while.

Sorry to hear that, that stinks.

take it easy,

When I pull a muscle, I use ice to numb it, and then heat.
I also use Tiger Balm, its a salve like icy hot. You should be able to find it at a health food store.

I assume that she's tried to lie flat on her back on the floor for a period of time? When my upper back is sore, I do this & I pull my knees up to my chest, I guess this would relieve lower pain too?

I did the same thing last year...I was brushing my teeth when I had the urge to cough...instead of covering the mirror from top to bottom in toothpaste, I tried to hold it in. BIG MISTAKE! Next thing I remember is laying on the bathroom floor feeling like I'd been stabbed in the back. Couldn't stand up straight for a week. Icing it for 10 minutes every hour is what I was told by our company nurse. I'll never hold in a cough while brushing my teeth again!

i find a heating pad that vibrates works good, as well as light stretching. and have someone rub some icy/hot lotion on the area.
