pulmazine and wheezing

My son has had little lung issues thus far but he does wheeze when he has a cold. I have been told that this is due to reflux. When I asked if I should give him pulmazine to treat it I haven't really gotten a clear answer. Should I be doing this? What is everyone else's experience.
Also, I wheeze at times but do not require albuterol. When I use it it doesn't seem to help. Does it usually help others? I assume if it was due to reflux you wouldn't need it...don't know.
thanks.

I'm really not sure if Pulmozyme would help a wheeze or not. It is a mucus thinner, so since your son doesn't seem to have many lung problems, maybe thats why he's not on it? They didn't start my son on it until his hospital stay back in August. He started wheezing then (when he was sick) and was put on albuterol and an inhaler for asthma and that helped. I didn't even know reflux could cause a wheeze, but I know it can cause a cough. I'm not sure, not much experience with reflux.

Maybe you guys have a touch of asthma or allergies? I'm not sure though because the albuterol doesn't help. Does Weston wheeze a lot and really loud when sick or just a little? I"m sorry I'm not more help!

Reflux can cause wheezing and does for me at times. One thing may be that the wheezing can be positional. If I bend over and put my head at ANY level below my waist I usually have some wheezing and occasional shortness of breath. I would try to notice if it is happening more when he lays on one side or the other or on his back or whatever. For me I got wheezing when I layed on my left side and (like I said) when I bent over. I started taking Nexium a few months ago and the wheezing from reflux is gone - though I do get an occasional wheeze when I have extra gunk in my lungs.

I would not think that pulmozyme would help if your son was wheezing from reflux, but maybe a med to help with the reflux would help him.

Happy Holidays,
Lindsey

DS's first year he wheezed a few times during the winter months. He was on zantac for reflux. His doctor just told us to beat him more. "Beat that cough out of him". We'd increase the CPT. He was already on atrovent/albuterol with CPT 3 times a day. So we'd get in an extra beating, increase the time. I'd also give him an extra bath. Steam up the bathroom really good at night and give him a tubby, let him play in there a little longer.

DS has been on pulmozyme for about a year. To tell you the truth. I don't notice a difference. Although, probably would be able to if he went off of it. It's more of a preventative. I DO notice that when DS is on Tobi he tends to get a little froggy, hoarse at first. But it's usually just at the start of the 28 day cycle.
