Pulmo and HS

I use the Inhailer albu, just one puff b/c it gives me headaches and panic attacks at two puffs. My doctor said albuterol is a part of the saline routine because they used it in trials and it gets a little deeper in your lungs. He told me I didn't even have to take it, but that it made it work better. He never mentioned an albuterol neb -- I hate them anyway. I would ask your doc if it's necessary. I wouldn't want to spend time on -another- neb if you don't have to. Two is enough *laughs* I wouldn't want three, especially if I didn't have to. It's up to you, but my doc says the puffer is fine. Just my two cents. I love the saline though. Never will give it up.

my daughter does 2 shots of Albuterol just before the vest for 30 minutes.
during the vest she does HS and then Pulmozyme, and the other vest treatment of the day only HS.
I'm curious if anyone else does their nebs at the same time as the vest? if not, why not?
certainly saves time and helps with the morning routine.

I dont do any nebs with my vest. I just dont feel comfortable doing them. Its kind of a combo of not getting enough in me & feeling overwhelmed for some reason. I have the time to do it seperately so its not really an issue.

I do the albuterol neb, the the pulmozyme, then the HS. I was under the impression by my doctor to do the pulmo before the HS. The point being is that the pulmo is supposed to thin the mucus which will in turn make it easier to spit up when you do the HS. Makes sense to me.

Also, I have done both the inhaler and the neb albuterol. I acually like the inhaler better but my doc wants me on the albuterol because it gets more medicine to more parts.

Cheyenne uses both, the nebbed albuterol and the inhaler. We have been doing her albuterol and then the Pulmozyme right after that, both while doing the vest. Since she is sick again, or should I say still?, they said to try doing the nebs first, wait 15 minutes, and then do the vest. We just started that on Tuesday, so I dont know if it is doing better for her or not.

The only reason I don't do them together is b/c I feel that I don't get enough medicine deep down into my lungs. With the vest's pounding, I just can't seem to get enough medicine in me. I have mild/moderate CF and feel this way. It's not like my lungs are horrible or anything. They are good like I stated. I just don't feel that I get enough benefit when doing them together.

If I was on more meds, I probably would do them together for TIME. It does take sooooo much longer the way I do them. If I worked, I know I'd do them together to reduce the amount of time. Right now, an treatment for me is around 1 hour, 15 minutes. What is yours?

I do all my meds seperately w/out the vest bc i feel like I can't get enough in if I'm doing the vest at the same time.
as far as I know you are actually supposed to do pulmozyme before you do hyp saline b/c the pulmozyme breaks the mucus down and the hyp saline lets you spit that out. thats always been my understanding and what i do.

I use nebulized Xopenex (which is refined albuterol- not as many of the side effects) and I like it well enough that I pay the bigger "non prefered" copay for it. It also comes in an inhaler, but I haven't tried it yet, but I may now that I have added the HS, for days when I don't have forever to do my nebs . I started out doing:

Xopenex
vest and Pulmozyme
wait 15 minutes between end of Pulmozyme (usually halfway through the vest) and then do HS, but I coughed more all day.

So now in the mornings, I am trying to do:

Xopenex,
HS with the vest,
then wait and do the Pulmozyme a couple of hours later after I get back in the morning from the pool (2 days a week).
If I have time (yeah, uh huh), I will do the pulmozyme 15 mins or so after the HS on those days, and I do it that way the other mornings, too.

In the evenings, I have been doing:

Xopenex,
pulmozyme,
wait 15 mins, then vest and HS.

My doctor recommended the Xopenex, then pulmozyme, then 15 min. later, HS, so that's why I do it in that order at night,( plus I want to make sure I have as much of the HS coughed up before I do my Advair and lay down for the night). My Advair comes next, everytime, and my antibiotic is always last. Don't know if any of that helps or not!
