pulmonary edema

anyone experienced it... i got one now after 2 weeks of iv antibiotics in hospital. I'm barely thriving on 5 liters of oxygen Sats still at 89. Cant move even a foot or two. FEV1 was 14% before it. now i dunno.

I have had it in the form of altitude sickness. It can give a new meaning to being terrified! Usually a cardiac problem and/or pulmonary trauma precipitate pulmonary edema. Healthy people get it mountaineering and sky diving. It sounds like they are doing exactly what they should. First is to restore oxygenation, repair the lungs, i.e. antibiotics or fluid drainage and get the source of the edema under control.

My lungs were in very good condition when I had it and my recovery was fast, less than two weeks. My lung function dropped for several years, eventually returning to normal. At the time I was told to expect a small loss in my PFTs, from where you are now, chances are good you will recover most if not all of your breath.
