I take pulmozyme and have been on it for about 6 months now. I went to re-order more via mail order and found out my insurance changed the way prescriptions are paid for. I was paying $80 for a 3 month supply. Now they have changed it (it is still on their formulary, but it is brand name) and I have to pay $345.07 per month! And it is even more expensive to get it at a retail pharmacy (like your local drugstore). Getting it mail order is 20% ($345.07) and getting it retail is 30% ($488.00)!
Can they just change it like this? We cannot afford a $345.07 med payment-and that is just one of the meds I am on! For the vest I am going to have to pay $250 per month for about 16 months (plus meet my deductible of $750 per year). We make pretty good money but there is no way we can afford this.
Any ideas for me?? I am applying to the Genetech Endowment for Pulmozyme, but I highly doubt we will get that big of a break because of our income (which is not high....my husband is a teacher and I work 30 hours from home....but high enough that I don't think we will qualify for anything).
I just don't think its fair at all that they can change what I pay from $80 for a 3 month supply to $345.07 per month! That is a HUGE increase! I plan on writing a letter to the insurance company and to the makers of Pulmozyme, but I highly doubt it will make a difference.
Thanks for your help.
