I am a 28 yr. old female with cf. I have multiple psuedamonouses and a lot of resistancy factors. According to the synergy studies done at columbia, I still should be responding to tobrymiacin and ceftazadime combination. However, the last two times I have done the three week course of antibiotics, I start feeling about halfway through them and directly after they are over, like I am completely tight chested, have trouble breathing, and feel extremely tired and unhungry. Last time this went away after sometime and the treatment was for the most part successful. Now it is happening again with this treatment and I want to know if this is something others are experiencing aswell?

I did home i.v.s in March. My 2nd day of tobramycine and ceftazadime, I was feverish, felt tight in my chest and and was tired as well. But after 2 days I was back to normal, fever was gone, and chest tightness went away. But I never experienced shortness of breath. I almost called the dr. but I didn't and luckily it all went away. But if I was short of breath, I would have called him... I don't like to be short of breath, and I'm not sure it's what you should be feeling if you're on i.v.'s. Perhaps you should contact you dr. Good luck, Eliza.

like barb, I too experienced chest tightness for a few days in the beginning of the course of a/b's. I also never mentioned it to the dr. Sounds like we all need to speak up more and ask more questions ....lol

I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm still fairly new to all this, so I don't have answers yet.

Best Wishes,

My experience is that sometimes the bugs do respond to different antibiotics in your sputum culture and in your lungs...Sometimes your sputum doesn´t show every bug in your lungs, because they "hide deep inside".
According to my culture my "personal bugs" shoul react with nearly everything, but trying it as IV only Meropenem is really working...
