Hi i just got my gene test back today and i found out that i have 1 copy of delta F508 and 1 copy of G551D. I was happy to learn that I could start Kalydeco but am worried about the copay with medicare part D. I get extra help through medicare program but am not sure if they cover it. My doctor had me fill out some papers for vertex today and I am waiting on them to get back to me. Does anybody take Kalydeco on the forum that is on medicare? If so, How long do it take to get the drug after you filled out the vertex paperwork? Thanks for you help!!

For me it took alittle more than 30 Days from "here fill this out" to having it in my hand. If you filled out paperwork for vertex you be pleasntly suprised at how little you have to do. the ladies at GPS took care of everything for me. best of luck

Thanks I can't wait to get it! I hope Medicare doesn't give me any problems.

I actually have Medicare as my secondary ( along with Extra Help) and Vertex was having so much trouble with my primary insurance, they were able to run it faster through my Medicare. I had a co-pay of 3.30$ with the extra help. We did this for about 4 months. Then they were able to supply my primary insurance with all the annoyances they required for approving it, they started running it through my primary first, and then Medicare as my secondary.

I almost would have preferred to keep running it through Medicare. They were much more helpful and it ran through perfectly every time.

Good Luck!
