Question for the women

anonymous

New member
This is a question for all the ladies. My periods have never been regular-regular but I always got one maybe every 4-6weeks. Anyway now its been 2months and so far nothing. I haven't lost any weight, in fact I have gained a few pounds. But the last 2-3 days I've been getting awful cramps (period pains) and feeling down, EXACTLY as I feel when I have my period, but I'm not having one. Anyone know what might be causing this? Should I go to my doctor?

Anon, ( I am a member but I would prefer to remain anon on this one)

Is there a chance you could be pregnant? I know that stress levels can also effect your period sometimes. I've also heard that going off prednisone also causes you to be late, as your body is trying to get itself "normal". If it were me though and I was a month late on my period and knew that there was no way I was pregnant, I would go get this checked out at my doctors. I don't want to sound "worse case", but I know that one of the signs of ovarian cancer is absense of your period, so I would get that checked out.

Sorry I should have stated I am not pregnant. I am also not particularly stressed at the moment..I am a little bit worried about this though...I'm wondering how long I should wait before I go get checked out. I keep saying, we'll see if I get it this week, I'm just wondering why it feels like Im getting a period when I'm not!

I really dont have a anwser for you but I know where you are coming from. My periods were never regular I would go like 3 months in between periods. I went to the doc and he said everything was fine, CF is a constant stress on your body, so that was maybe causing why I would go 3 months. Now I haven't had a period in over 2 years. I just found out that my hormone levels are low, other then that I have no clue why/what is going on. Just thought I would share your not alone. Heh, I personally dont mind not having a period Anyway I hope you find answers. SOrry I wasn't much of help.

When I talked to my doc about planning a family, he wanted to know if my periods were normal, if I was getting them every month. He said that if I were really irregular, that that was a sign of unfertilitly. Again though, I would check with a doc to make sure what you're experiencing isn't something wrong.

I was actually sitting here trying to work on Pi while you guys talked, but I couldn't remember any of the numbers, and timed out on a decimal. I fell asleep at the keyboard: 3.14159265358979323846

I don't know if this is true or not because I myself didn't have this problem, but figured I would throw it out there as a possibility.

A friend of mine in high school didn't start her period until our senior year and then she had extremely irregular periods. Her docs did blood work and said that she was anemic and that until she absorbed enough iron she would not start her period or have regular periods. I don't know how true that is cause that is what she told me and I haven't heard it myself from a doctor. Just a thought though.

Hope you figure out what the deal is soon.

My periods got all out of whack when I was 18. I wouldn't get one for 2 months, then I'd get one and it would last 8 or 9 days, then I'd get another 2 weeks later. It was horrible! My doctor took some blood to check my hormone levels and they were all skrewed up. Sometimes this happens for no apparent reason. I went on birth control and it was all straightened out.

Most likely its nothing serious but you should tell your doctor just in case.

Hello, I am the original poster. It seems I spoke one day too soon I think I will tell my cf doctors the next time I see them all the same. Thank you all so much for your input, I was a little concerned. And I will mention getting my hormone levels checked out.

On another note Sean Davis, I usually find your jokes and what not quite funny, but I felt they were a little out of place in this topic. I was quite worried, and your input didn't really help!

I had this problem last year & went to my GYN. What a waste of time...I thought it was related to my CF (weight loss, antibiotics etc), but I wanted to make sure since we have a family history of "woman problems." He (figures it was a man) had the nerve to ask me if I was anerexic (sp?) because of my severe weight loss (my health was going to hell at that point) & said my CF related issues (duh weight loss is one of them) has nothing to do with things. He wanted me to record my periods on a card & return whenever it was. Needless to say I didnt return to him. I spoke with my CF doctor about it. Once I got my weight, nutrition etc under control & stopped my antibiotics....my cycle returned to normal. Our bodies go thru a lot ith CF & then the "woman" aspect of things just tops it off. It could have been anything, but if in doubt check it out in the future!

Missing one even two periods a year isn't a big deal. I have THE BEST gyno, I too have done this occassionally. Usually, it happens on months you do not ovulate. This has happened to me both on and off birth control, and there was no way either time that I was pregnant. If it happens more often then a couple of times a year, I would go to a gyno and express your concerns. My gyno clinic is all women, which I feel makes a big difference. One of my girlfriends would skip every other month, come to find she had an "inactive" ovary. Still not a big concern, since the other was fine. Sometimes it can mean PCOS, but you would know because it is usually painful.
I wouldn't worry if it is not frequent, but if it becomes that way, head to a female gyno!
