Question regarding my own health for all with Asthma

Recently i have been getting very short of breath, ill just be sitting down and be calm and suddenly i dont know what happens and ill just take a deep breath in cos i feel like i cant breath, i tried talking to my doctors about it and they just think its normal and all they do is tell me to take extra puffs of my bronchodilater this is not really helping much(my dietician thinks my SOB may be because im doing night feeds and because my weight is going up because of feeding or because my feed aint digesting properly or something)

I think it could be because of my night feeds, because i only started night feeds recently and my SOB only started soon after i started night feeds and only seems to occur on days i do night feeds

But i think its may be Asthma..because Also no matter how much physio i do, i always seem to be congested deep down (my small airways?) and since Asthma occurs in the small airways, is it possible i have Asthma and inflammation in my small airways?

Because i know Asthma = Inflammation = Increased Mucous production.

Im just looking for answers.

Hi Zara,

It's me again. Since nobody answered, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm not sure why you think that asthma occurs only in the small airways. When I use the peak flow, and it is high, but I still feel asthmatic -- my doctor always says, well, this just measures the large aways. Your small ones probably are probably what is bothering you. Other times my peak flow drops. So that would tell me asthma affects large and small. So I had to google and there were many articles on asthma in the large and small airways. If you want to the articles, I will link. Mostly complicated studies.

So it seems like if you have inflammation, it is throughout all your airways.

If you read the other thread, you will see why a bronchodilator isn't enough. The other thing that I don't get. You go on night feeds. You get SOB. You make a smart connection. The doctors don't get it. The same story over and over. I wish more doctors would really listen to their patients. And try new things to see if they find relief.

I don't know anything about night feeds. Do you get reflux with them? If you do, reflux can cause asthma. The two frequently go hand in hand -- because the two tubes are next to each other. One irritates the other. I see on other threads people have been talking about aspirating a little food.

I also like your equation. Can I add one more thing? Increased Mucus production...which gets trapped.

I think everyone must do what you are doing. Seeking answers and solutions.

Hi Nightwriter

I didnt know Asthma occured in the large airways also, for some reason i thought it only occured in the small airways and thats why i thought i must be inflamed down therre because when i breath deep bown i only feel the mucous rattling in my small airways, my large airways are totally clear

And well, since SOB is related to Asthma & Asthma causes Inflammation, i just thought that Asthma might be the cause of my SOB

Im not really sure, but yes, it is a definite fact that i only started getting SOB once my weight started going up, so i think it may be related to that, but im not really sure how weight gain can cause SOB? And even if it is my weight gain causing SOB, then thats a tough situation, because i really need this extra weight.

I spoke to my doctors, and they said to just take extra puffs of bronchodilater and thats not really helping me, i just dont know what to do, its really annoying being SOB all the time

oh i forgot to mention, no i dont get reflux, but thats probbaly because i take Omeprazole which is exactly for reflux.

EDITED: Nightwriter, its interesting you mention mucous gets trapped when u are inflamed, maybe my small airways are in fact inflamed and the mucous is getting trapped because even though i do physio, no matter how much physio i do i can always hear mucous rattling in my small airways
