Question Regarding O2 use and pulse ox

Thank you all for the replies and information. I plan on talking to my doc when I see her next week.

My problems are during the day when I want to be able to move around and do things and just find that I do not have enough air and energy to do so. I went ahead and increased the oxygen to 3.5 liters and it has brought my O2 levels up to 96 and made me feel a bit better yesterday.

I was also wondering does anyone here use portable oxygen concentrators or just the huge bottles of oxygen when going out. If you have a more portable unit are those covered by insurance etc.

Thanks again <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Talk to your Dr. about the Easymate made by Percision Medical (Lincare or Apria) should be able to get these. It is an 8hr on 2lpm pulse system, it gives 9 liters of bolus o2 per breath, so it goes deep into the lungs. Or you can always get the Helios plus or Helios Marathon, these two are the more common. Insurance does cover these just as they would cover your regular portables.

Do you use any inhaled Steroids as well. I've just had my doc add Pulmicort respules mixed w/albuterol to my nebulized regimen.
This has helped me a great deal. I take 10mg prednisone am and 10mg pm as well.
I also have O2 at home. I use a big concentrator for sleep, and 2 portables. One that gives continuous O2 and one that delivers the O2 in pulses. This is called a Oxymatic, Lincare set me up and did exercise studies with me to see on what setting I needed to use it for exercise or just hanging out. Insurance covered mine no problem.
Good luck and feel better

Thank you for the info on the O2 equipment. I take Pulmicort 2 puffs 2x day and am currently on 32mg of steroids although I have not noticed any improvement since the doc had me start the steroids.

I have also not noticed any change since they started me on IV meds... This is not something I have ever experienced before and don't feel that it is an infection or one of my usual infections.

I hope to be speaking to my doc tomorrow and figure something out.

Thanks again for all the replies <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I saw my doc today and was switched from oral steroids to IV steroids. The thought behind it being that my body may not be absorbing it orally. It does seem to have made a difference already, crossing my fingers that it maintains.

I also spoke with my doc re the saturation levels and was told to shoot for around 90 as too much oxygen is not good either. I have noticed that my O2 levels can be quite low and if my pulse is low as well I still feel ok but when my pulse starts climbing I get to feeling poorly pretty fast... not sure if anyone else has similar experiences.

Again, thanks a lot for the replies and have a great day everyone <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
