Hi! My friend with CF was recently moved from "moderate" status to "serious" status. Can anyone tell me what this means or where I can find out more info? Thank you! -Janaewinter

CF is progressive which means at some point that persons health deteriorates.

Your friend probably has more lung damage or lower function that can not be reversed which is all part of the progression.

Just to clarify tho.....are you talking in general or is your friend in the hospital at this time?

No, he's not in the hospital right now. I guess this means that it's irreversible? And does anyone know what the status levels are (ie. fair, moderate, serious, severe?)

As I've heard the most standard break out is:
Mild - PFT's 70% and above - even if you dip down lower, if you bounce back up with treatment you're still considered mild.

Moderate - PFT's 50's - 60's percentile

Severe - PFT's below 40%

Sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully it's only a temporary setback and not permanent. But there is always hope. I am at the severe level, but still live a pretty normal life.
