Questions 'bout CFRD

I just got diagnosed a couple of months ago.

Affect my life-- I check my sugars before meals and occasionally after meals. I have to eat a very balanced diet (watch my sugar intake). Once in a while my sugars run high and I have to give myself a couple units of insulin. I count my carbs and make sure I get enough calories in each day.

My doctors found out about my CFRD at one of my appointments. I was having trouble with low sugars and then during my tune up I had super high sugars. Miserable feeling.

1) How does it effect your life?
2) what do you talk or do for it?
3) This is a stupid question I know but is there any known
cures?
4) How do you know you haver it/ what conditions do you get?

1. Shots with meals...not too bad

2. Take my insulin?

3. Not that I know of...

4. Well my symptoms were EXTREME thirst...the most thirsty I could have imagined... that was the main one. I don't remember much else

I was just diagnosed this week. I guess my numbers are borderline and its partly steriod induced.

I check my blood sugar before each meals and before bed time. I was getting insulin shots, but they actually started me on a pill (metformin sp?) yesterday and it helped keep my blood sugar normal all day and I didn't need any insulin.

So far its honestly been no big deal. I asked about diet changes and I was told that they don't treat CFRD with diet changes, but I have cut out certain things on my own, mostly soda.**

I have NO symptoms when my blood sugar is high. It was 385 the other day and I felt just fine.

**I'm editing to retract this statement. I met with a dietician and diabetes nurse educator today and there ARE diet restrictions...Im so upset about it...so we will see how that goes.

I also have no symptoms while having a high blood sugar. But if i dont take care of my high blood sugars for long enough, like a few days to a week I usually get pretty sick from all the bacteria building up.
