Rain Rain Go AWAY
I arrived at the park early to help out, to find that the brand new shelter, complete with new bathrooms and electricity was pretty much a shell, surrounded by MUD. Yep, still under construction even though the park person mentioned on Thursday to the CFF rep that things were good to go. The other shelter was booked for the day, though we should've taken it over 'cuz they didn't start arriving until noonish when we were finished. Oh well, next year the shelter SHOULD be complete.
Slogged in the mud pulling picnic tables into the shell-ter. Someone had painters plastic & duct tape -- I had a beach towel. And people gradually started arriving, as did the rain. Rain, rain. Lotsa rain. Most of us were prepared with rain ponchos; however, when we started heading south, the last 3rd of the route, our shoes very wet as did the bottom parts of our pants. Ugh! But it wasn't very cold, just wet. I stopped at the store on the way to our after party bbq for our team and bought dry sweatpants and wool socks. Ah!
Had hot pizza waiting for us -- raised $20,000 more total for the walk than we did last year $45,000 total for our walk. Only had two teams not show up, so maybe they'll be sending in more money. Couldn't believe the number of people who brought their small children, who got drenched and muddy. Poor kiddos were getting pretty cold and cranky toward the end.
Oh well, we had fun about 10 teams total showed up. Well over 150 walkers.
