Really bad chest pain...

Ok it started about 2 hours ago, same thing that happened like 2 months ago, except the other lung. I get these really sharp crazy pains everytime i breath in and cough, and can only breath in about half way. Last time my doc said it was probably a plug or something, and it went away on it's own.

This one is pretty bad, and I'm actually moaning a bit. If it's just a plug they can't really do anything right? And how come it comes so freaking suddenly. One minute I'm fine, the next, I'm in so much freaking pain.

Is there anything you guys do to help alleviate the symptoms. Someone told me to take a deep breath until it pops. I tried doing that earlier, but now it just hurts too much. I guess i just gotta wait it out.

It's wierd, cause i felt so clear the last 2 months, and this comes outa nowhere. What the hell gives

grrrrrrr

Assuming it is a plug, one thing that used to help Ry was drinking a ton of water, and, if anyone is around, having them do CPT wherever you feel the plug, we used to do this and we could usually get it to come out. Best of luck.

Man I know your pain. I get this about 4 to 6 times a month lately. They go away suddenly just as they come suddenly. I use to get these when I was young occassionally lately it has been more often. I just breath little slow breaths until it goes away.

I know this may be a weird question coming froma non CFer, but could it possibly be gas? When I was pregnant I got gas pains up under my ribs in my chest. They were so sharp I couldn't breathe in. A warm cup of tea usually helped me.

Hope its nothing Keil.

I have found that if I am having chest pain and feel that I need to cough up anything. I will breathe in through my nose slowly and exhale through my mouth - like a huff (not like you are blowing out candles) similar to when you do PFTs and they tell you to breathe out as long as you can but slowly and controlled in comparison to the blowing that you do for PFTs. Normally I do that and I can feel and hear the junk moving. Usually I try this if CPT and aerosol treatments don't do the trick. I will say it works everytime and relatively quickly for me. I know it is difficult to breathe deep when you have chest pain, but I do this to the best of my ability even if I can only inhale/exhale for a few seconds.

Sometimes I do this when I simply hear crackling as I breathe and the amount of junk I get up is amazing. It is kind of ALOT nasty, but I can breathe so much easier once it is all said and done.

I wanted to second that I get sharp pains when I get gas as well. Usually though I can tell the difference. I also get some relief with using the restroom or forcing a burp or two. When I have gas pain it is also normally all around my chest like a squeezing where as when I have chest pain it is mostly localized in a certain area.

Hope you start feeling better Kiel.

I get these too and its nice to hear that I'm not the only one. Sometimes they hurt so bad-I'm lilke, oh God I have cancer! J/K.
Same thing, the pain starts and I breathe in about half way-cause it hurts so bad. Sharp also. It comes and goes, and is usually in the lower lobe on the one side I have the most damage in.
When its bearable I just force myself to breathe in deeply-but not too fast, try slowly inhaling-and usually I feel a teeny pop. And it comes out later. Also alternating hot compresses with cold compresses helps.

I'm going to try the chest pt thing too when it comes on. The thing is it hurts so bad-I do't want to hit it, but I know that's best.

Hey guys

thanks for the tips. I can still feel it today, but it's not nearly as bad. It's weird, i was downtown, and i could feel my chest hurting, I was looking at people, and i thought no one knows that I am going through this. A lot of people go about their lives, not knowing what it is to suffer. You just never really know what people are going through or have. Someone could have cancer, or some other crazy disease, walk right past you and you would never know.

I like the perspective cf gives me sometimes. It makes me stop and really think about people, life, what it means to be alive.

I guess it's true. You never really know what true happiness is unless you suffer. There is just nothing to base it on othewise.

When this pain started what were you doing. Could it be an exercise move where you lifted some weights? Could it be that you are over doing your oo or did you cough so hard that you pulled a muscle? I would put warm compress or perhaps ice. I always liked the feeling of ice on my chest when i had pain or could not breathe. It was like an instinctive thing and would bring lots of relief.

I hope you feel better fast. Do you think you could have broken a rib?

whenever i have any chest pain it usually comes from a pulled muscle. I am referring to post transplant.
