Really sore Bum

"I would also suggest to give as much air time to the bum as you can. I cut a trash bag flat then put a blanket on top and let her play naked for as much time as I can. It sucks changing the blanket and trash bag due to pee and poo, but the air helps."

That's the best medicine I found. My daughter had ear infections as an infant, and she would get terrible diarhea when she took antibiotics. The skin would literally wipe away with the poo. I feel for you, I remember so well her gasping and holding her breath when we had to wipe her. Even antibiotic cream didn't heal her. I started leaving her naked on a towel so she could air out, and several baths a day with oatmeal. When I would put the diaper back on, I would apply A&D Ointment that I had squeezed some vitamin E capsules into. That was the best cure I found, but it definitely didn't work any where near as well without the air.

Poor little babe, I feel sick to my stomach thinking back on all of that...

Good Luck,
Terry

Hey there, congrats on the new baby! We have a 5 month old that was born with meconium ileus as well. He was in nicu for 28 days after just 1 surgery.

While in there, I think he had a reaction to the wipes they used or the combo of wipes with the new acid in his body from the enzymes, but we got a prescription that you can likely get from your pedi, for some stuff called butt balm. I believe it had nystatin, zinc, desitin and vitamin a & d. Not sure of the mixture, but it was/is the same color as bordeauxs butt paste but works 10x faster. Also airing out should help as well as I saw someone suggested. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
