Rebound Sickness?

Well I am sorry to say that I am super afraid I am getting really sick right now.

I stopped IV's monday morning at which time I was only coughing up small bits of white or slight yellow.

Thursday night when I got home I was so tired and a horrible headache I went to bed at 5:30pm and slept through until 5am. I hurt all over and figured it was just getting over the IV's etc but I woke during the night wiht cold sweats and teeth chattering.

Friday monring I woke feeling fine and went to the gym and work as usual. Friday during the day I was having pain in the area of my back that would be associated with the same area they saw the pneumonia so that was concerning, by the evening same thing as thursday I was so tired headahce not feelign well and hurt all over it hurt to move and my temp was 99.1 when I am normally 96.8. Again I slept last night from around 7pm unitl about 7:30 this am and felt pretty good.

This morning though my back is so sore and it hurts alot when I cough or breath deep though not in the same spot as I was concerned about. The pain is getting worse today I am waiting to see what happens right now if it gets worse I may have to be seen before monday. I am also coughing up some dark green nasty stuff, alot of times this happens after IVs becuase I get so dried out on IVs I stop getting stuff up but then a few days after stopping I will get a bit more up so it may be a coincidence?

Now as an aside my sister and brother in law and alot of people around where they live have had something going around where they feel pretty similarly so I am not sure if this is me catchign what is goign aroudn or what. My sister said she felt dizzy if she did too much and her back hurt and my BIL got the cold and chills part.

What is this? This is new to me.

My concerns are that it might be rebound sickness where not everything got killed so now it is flaring up but I dont think reboudns happen this quickly or extremely.

I dont think the ER is called for but I am not sure and if I call my on call CF line they will auto say go to ER I believe. I thought abotu calling my CF nurse at home.

The other thing is maybe it is just what is 'goign around' but affecting me worse?

I start a new job on monday and am praying I am not sick -- again!

While 99.1 is higher than normal for you, I wouldn't say it warrants a trip to the ER. If you call your clinic, they'll just tell you to go to the ER? What in the world clinic do you have that that's their automatic response to you being sick? If I tell my doc I'm not doing well, he'll say "okay come in and see me, we'll take a look" or "tell me what's going on, maybe we'll put you on something." I think the only times I was instructed to go to the ER for something was when I had PICC trouble and I had to get the lines pulled.

If it were me, and I was worried, I'd call my clinic (or rather, I'd probably email my doc). But then again, they wouldn't tell me to go to the ER, so I don't know what to tell you.

Nicole, how are you feeling today?

I agree with Emily - your CF clinic should not just automatically refer you to the ER. However, I think what you might be saying is that, because it's a weekend, you can't call the regular clinic so you have to call the on-call people, who are usually just pulmonologists and don't have a lot of CF experience. I have sometimes been able to call the on-call folks and tell them what I needed (like an oral antibiotic, for example) and they've been willing to call in an Rx for me. But that's only when I know what I need and it sounds like this is a new experience for you. If you can make it through till Monday and then call your regular clinic, that's what I would recommend. If you are feeling really terrible and can't wait or aren't comfortable waiting - go to the ER. If that is your only option, I say do it. Your health is the most important thing - even more so than a new job.

And let me tell you, I started a new job when I was on the verge of being really sick and it put me right over the edge. Within the first week of my new job, I had to go into the hospital for 2 weeks. I'm not trying to freak you out - my employer was great about it - I just learned that sometimes we can't push ourselves like we want to; you've got to take care of yourself first and foremost and, while it's totally normal and understandable to want to start your new job off on the right foot, your employer will get over it if you can't be there because you're sick. #*it happens - it's part of life <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Keep us posted on how you're feeling and what you decided to do. Onward and Upward!!

thanks ladies

Well I dare say it was that nasty cold poeple have been getting (typing as knocking on wood and crossing fingers). I did not run a fever again sat night but my daughter started with one.

I was feeling much better on sunday with just an achey feeling no pain when breathing and I have not gotten up any more green so I think that was perhaps my normal post IV junk. We will see how it goes at work today.

My new boss already knows about my lung issues and if I get sick again right away I will be taking off the entire time, no fears there I just mentioned it becuase it would suck. For some reason whenever I have a major life change just before or just after I get really sick, this happened even beofre I know I had cf.

as for the ER bit my on call is both my pulmo's from CF clinic but they are very conservative. Since they know I have a history of bleeds and just got over pneumonia and taken off IV's this week if I called with problems I was afraid they would tell me to go to er. THe only reason I have ever called the on call was for bleeding though so maybe I am wrong.

thanks again Em & wheezie
