Red Man Syndrome

I have no idea if this would help with IV antibiotics, but when I get rashes, sometimes it helps to wipe them down with peroxide and/or diet tonic water and take a warm to hot shower. Sometimes, that gets things under control for a few hours.

I had redmans after being treated with vanco for a uterine infection (after childbirth). Though I was already off the vanco the redmans got worse and worse over 2 weeks. I tried oral benedryl and zantac, loratidine, hydrocortizone, prednisone (that did help) and coloidial oatmeal baths and went in to the emergency room for IV of benedryl. Nothing stopped it so I did a little research and took 500 mg ester vitamin C every few hours for 24 hours and that is what did it.

Not sure if the vit C would work while you are still on it and also vit C in large doses can cause loose stools (I'm PS and had just had a baby so it didnt' impact me). Ester C is less acidic so easier on the stomach but still will cause loose stools. From what I know about redman's, it's the rate of infusion that causes the problem-it has to be done slowly. A true allergic reaction is different and I don't know if that was why mine was so long lasting and severe (I was a red person head to toe).

I hope you find something that works for you. I know how itchy redman's is. Feel better soon.

Thanks so much for the responses.. I actually tried that tonight, a partial dose of benadryl it seems to do the trick for being home, I will see how I do with it over the weekend, I can't be tired at all at work, it wouldn't be safe for my patients because I am giving them sedation.....

I so appreciate everyone trying to help me... I am really down about being on IVs again it was unexpected to me and I am struggling with it, as well as coughing so hard at work and having all the ppl at my new job giving me looks of pity

Thanks again
