I am back on IVS, Tobra, Ceftaz and Vanco, I am on 2 grams of Vanco, that is infusing every 12 hours, it is set to infuse over 4 hours.. but I am still getting red cheeks, itchy skin and scalp and I am not able to take Benadryl before work because it makes me to tired..anyone have any other tricks.. I am wondering if I did a longer drip if that would help or I don't know

any ideas

I just started all 3 of those ABX's as well..I wouldn't be able to tolerate Vanc at all without Benadryl, even though it does make me feel awful. I don't really know of a way around it besides an antihistamine, although I've been given Zantac before infusions before...my doctors told me it can help with itching but I don't think it will do anything against the other reactions...and I didn't notice very much difference even when they did that. Maybe someone else can help more. I really hate this med...I feel worse on it than I do when I'm sick.

Jen,
Have you tried tylenol at all? We generally use benadryl with tyleonl for redmans. Also, would you be able to take even a small dose of benadryl. Sometimes a little goes a long way. I hope you figure it out.
