So I've been potings for a few weeks abt my stomach issues and the diagnosis are in and it's Gastropareseis which I know I may have talked abt. saw my gastro dotor today who I think is wonderful and he put me on Reglan. Now I pulled some stuff off the comp. which had my head spinning. I even saw there were lawsuits pending? cld that be? He said my case is viral and it wld probably take more than a year to get things back to somewhat normal.I know I have read abt this drug on one of these categories? but don't remember which. So I am begging you all give me yr. input. Tell me yr. experience. I want to hear it from real people, just not go to ASK.Com which I go to for everything told you I am not good on the comp. Lookg foward to hearing from you fine people. Pat-55/CF

There are other topics on this I remember skimming b/c the gi doctor who put my g-tube in said I could have gastroparesis too, and prescribed me reglan, but I know there are some side effects (I think if its taken long term mostly) but I still worry. But what can you do if you cant eat or gain weight because your stomach isnt emptying? I hate cf.

But I think some others will pipe in, but you can always use the search function and type in reglan and read past topics on it there.

I too was diagnosed with gastroparesis. My symptoms were mostly moderate, however, and made worse by an infection I had in my stomach. It was bad, and I was losing weight. I was vomiting several times per day. What actually helped me dramatically was taking Arginine with meals. The theory goes, that when you take arginine, it turns into nitric oxide in your body, and the nitric oxide increases blood flow to the stomach, thereby promoting normal digestion. It's not a far out theory, but no doctor would ever recommend it. I swear by it because of the results it's given me. Arginine is a simple amino acid. It's harmless and cheap. It's worth a try. You can get it at any supplement store. I started taking 500mg with meals. I still do. I notice a huge difference. Cleaning up my diet also helped significantly. I was able to avoid reglan, but other folks might be different.

Reglan can be a scary drug for some. Most of the side effects of concern are neurological in nature, and they would be more likely to show up in the first few days or weeks of using them. If you notice your limbs jerking, you should call the doctor immediately. That being said, my daughter was on it for over a year post g-tube surgery. Our GI said the benefits outweighed the risks for her, and we had absolutely no problems and it was a very very good experience for her. HOpe this helps.
