Salmonella/food poisoning

Okay guys,

I know it is going to seem like I am nothing but problem after problem here the past few days, but I have to get advice from you all.

I went out to eat last night at IHOP - I had eggs, pancakes, bacon and has browns. Well I ate the eggs against my better judgement (they just didn't look right). I am regretting that now. I got up this morning feeling kind of nauseous but figured I was just hungry. I hooked up my morning IV and started my nebs. I figured I would just eat when I finished my nebs like usual. As I was finishing my TOBI I was hit with the vomitting. It just started coming out no warning just BAM!.

I have been throwing up off and on now for the past few hours. I haven't eaten anything yet today so there isn't much to bring up thank goodness. I have abdominal cramping, the head aches that can come with it and just and overall I want to die feeling.

I was wondering if you guys think I should go to the ER or something. I have never had food poisioning like this before. This is horrible. I just didn't know if I should be doing more than just laying here waiting for it to pass. Then again can they even do anything for me if I do go to the hospital. Bright side if I do need to go ... I already have a PICC so I won't have to be stuck for an IV lol.

Thanks guys,

Lindsey

In general, food poisoning resolves on its own but is miserable to live through. It's more serious if you are vomiting continually AND have diarhhea and a temperature. You might want to call an urgent care center or the ER or even the on-call doctor from your doctor's office, tell them what's going on and see what they want to do. Most likely they'll just tell you to drink tons and take it easy. From what I've read, it goes away in about 12-24 hours. Trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right to do nothing, get yourself to the ER. I've had it myself, and it isn't fun. Fortunately, mine resolved in a day.

After this many hours you should start feeling a little better. Take it easy, and get help if it's not improving. Drink lots of water.

pray to the porcelain gods for the next few hours.
Try to choke down some anti-nausea stuff.
Other than that, have fun :/

Had it December 04.
Never fun.
Haven't looked at a turkey sandwich the same way again.

Blah!

Okay thank you guys. I just got off the phone with the doc on call for my office and he said that I SHOULD be okay staying at home that I need to try my best to take in fluids as I haven't been able to take in much of anything yet. He said that if I am not feeling better by tomorrow to call back as they may need me to go to the hospital because I may need IV fluids and possibly to be admitted again.

He said the main concern with my not taking fluids in was the build up of the meds in my system. Again as long as I can take in fluids I should be okay. **Here is to hoping that I don't get sick the next time I drink something**

Thanks again guys.

As for the onset of symptoms .. I didn't get symptoms until about 12 hours after my meal .... I have looked some stuff up and it said that symptoms can hit that long after ingesting the infected food though.

Well off to bed again. Thanks guys

I had food poisoning twice ,one time worse than the other. The second time i had it, i had symptoms much like what you describe. My doctor told me to try to eat yogurt. He said the good bacteria would actually help my stomach to feel better. I did try that and it did help. Maybe you might want try that and see if it works for you. Fluids are definitely the most important thing you need right now or like you said, it will be back to the hospital. I hope you feel better soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
