My 4 year old has salty tasting skin, he doesnt really have any other symptoms, he gets the odd head cold but it never goes to his chest. He isnt a great eater so isnt as big as other boys his age. I wondering how salty is too salty in CF as my own skin can taste salty at times.

Thanks.
Well the skin of my daughter is VERY salty! (I never tasted other children though....) It's like you would put your tongue into the salt pot.
I read that the sweat is 5 or 6 times saltier than normal?
If you are unsure, you should talk with your doctor and get a sweat test done!

Concur:

CF is not a lung disease. CF affects many organs and only a few. Have a sweat test done.

Bill

Thanks,

Is salty skin alone a reason to test? I would say my own skin is salty, neither of us have any of the other symptoms

I say get him tested, at least it could put your mind at ease, and if he does have CF at least you can start treating it early. There's a bunch of people on this forum that weren't diagnosed till teens or later in life b/c they didn't show obvious symptoms. He may have a "mild" case. When you get tested, go to a CF Center, I've heard of inaccurate results coming from other places, hopefully one is nearby. To find one near you check out this site: http://www.cff.org/aboutCFFoundation/Locations/FindACareCenter/
