thanks, guys.... i'm not breathing too bad right now. not even using O2. sats are around 96, which is good. now its more of the really bad itching... like i'm scratching my skin off! seems like a reaction, doesn't it?? my lips even feel a little swollen, but i may just be being paranoid.

i think the idea was that on the 3rd week of IV meds, i was having an allergic reaction causing wheezing and worsening symptoms since the drug coverage was supposedly right on. so, they took me off the IV meds, but it may have been the cipro since i'd been on that for nearly two weeks. i feel confident i can take off cipro after 15 days and just call the doc on monday without risking too much resistance cause my usual course was 14 days. the bad thing is, if its allergic reaction (i've dealt with this with zosyn in the past), the reaction itself could take WEEKS to feel better... urgh.

mel, great point about the sugars! i've been keeping a close eye, but i will deff. check more often when i'm sob... i have noticed they've been spot on normal even without insulin and on prednisone... weird, huh?

by the way, you guys are so wonderful to get back to me so quickly with my fears. i look forward to other thoughts if anyone has anything to add. again, i don't feel RIGHT NOW like its a life-threatening thing or i wouldn't be online posting about it... LOL! well, maybe i would.... i like to get opinions before going in. ha ha.

i probably should have gone yesterday or at 5 am with the severe SOB that O2 wasn't even helping much, but i honestly don't know what they could do above and beyond giving me a treatment, benadryl and O2, all of which i can do at home without the risk of contracting swine flu. does anyone know what else they'd do for an allergic reaction that wasn't bad enough for an epi-pen (which i also keep close at hand at all time... lol)?

Take a benadryl and see what happens. If the itching goes away its likely that you might have had an allergic reaction and need to talk to your doc about another change of meds or staying on the benadryl. If no improvement then you know it was something else.

One thing I just thought of as it regards to the itching.

You have been on Cipro. Well Cipro and Levaquin
are in the same drug class. When I am on Levaquin as I am now
if I go out in the sunlight my forearms get red and itch like crazy.

I was reminded of this just this morning when i took my dog
out. The Sun is out today here and now I have red itchy arms.
Your itching may be a result of the same.
I just put a cold wash cloth on my arms to relieve the itching.
I am also winding down on a course of good Ole Pred.

I hope You are doing better now Sonia.
