serratia?

just wondering if anyone knew anything about serratia. It turned up in my latest culture and I start antibiotics tomorrow for it. I was sick with some type of virus for nearly 2 weeks and had the culture done during a sick visit and serratia was in it. I'm relatively new to CF (diagnosed with probable CF at age 18) and I've never cultured anything except Staph before so this is throwing me for a bit of a loop. aa
also just found out that I'm beginning to develop osteroporosis in my back so if anyone has any good ways to get in some lactose free calcium in, I'd be greatful.

Thanks!

I got it from my last hospital visit. It's not harmless, but it's nowhere near what pseudo and staph does. Google it up, theres some info on it out there.

Also, it used to grow on bread and make religious icons think it was the blood of Jesus.

Whey has very little lactose in it, so most people who are lactose-intolerant are ok with it. But don´t you take extra calcium (tablets)? Just be careful, not to take it at the same time with antibiotics, magnesium, iron.

Hi there Jamie,

Sorry to hear that you haven't been well. It seems that you're new
to CF so may not know that a lot of people with CF are at risk of
low levels of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) because of our
difficulty to absorb fat properly. Vitamin D is needed to absorb
calcium in order to have healthy bones, without adequate levels of
Vit D any calcium you take orally won't be as effective.

If your doctor hasn't already checked, ask him / her to check your
vitamin levels with a simple blood test, especially Vit D
because it seems like you may already have low levels and need
supplements like Uli stated earlier. Many people w CF take a
vitamin preparation that gives vit A, D, E and K in a water soluble
format for easy absorption.

Hope you feel better soon (so sorry if I bored you with info you
already knew!)
