Sharp pain...

It could also be pleurisy - an inflammation in the lining of the lungs. This doesn't typically show up on an x-ray; at least it never has on my x-rays. If that's what it is, usually ibuprofen works well to alleviate some of the pain and reduce the inflammation. If the pain is really bad though, I agree with johannaleigh: call the doc. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.
