Shingles (Zoster herpes)

I've just developed shingles (Zoster herpes) for the third time and the pain is killing me. :I I'm watching the clock and counting the minutes left till my next painkiller dose.

This time is along the jaw, which besides the pain, also makes eating a problem. I can barely open my mouth, my lower lip is numb and chewing is a bitch. And I'm not drinking, I'm slurping. Oh, what a joy !...

And why does it seems to hurt more during the night ? Or is it just me ?...

I've had shingles 3 times in the exact same spot(on my neck). I have been lucky in that there usually isn't much pain. My doctor says it isn't too bad because the zithromax I take helps to reduce the symptoms. It generally clears up after a couple weeks of oral antibiotics. My friend had it on his forehead and scalp with a lot of pain and nerve loss for months. Not fun. Hang in there. As you know, it will go away.

Hi Vlad,

I have had shingle-like symptoms for several years now. I start with an irritating tickle in a nerve, which then turns to a prickly feeling with pain. It always happens on one side of my face and the only thing that will get rid of it is a dose of an antiviral. I have yet to break out in the rash, although I have heard it is very painful. So I guess I'm not much good for support, but I do know that it's no fun to have shingles! Good luck and hang in there.
