Shoulder Pain

OK folks......this is one of those things that I have tolerated for awhile, but it really bothers me today so I will finally ask your opinion. My left shoulder is really giving me problems. I use to be able to lie on it & move it with no problem except for an occaisional "pop" like it would adjust itself althought it never really bothered me. Since having my picc line in back in April it has been bothering me continuously. It "appears" to be getting worse. I have limited motion range with pain & severe stiffness in certain positions. I can say that it seemed to be better when I made an effort to exercise it like playing catch with Jazmine using that arm, but tho that exercise helped a lot....it never really went away. I thought about visiting the chiropractor thinking maybe during the Picc line that it pushed something, but just dont feel like starting another doctors visit....any thoughts, input, experiences etc. Other than this joint pain my usual "arthritic" self has been under control!

if its bothering you constant i would get it checked out, could be any number of things, I have ulna nerve damage in my left arm and its a drag, dont know if they will do anything about it yet.
Somebody at work has shoulder pain turns out he has 'calcification' on his shoulder, my cousin in NJ had this also he had an op to get it removed. I think its like calcium deposits building up on the surface of the bone.

I would get it checked out too...just to be on the safe side.
If you do see a doctor about it, we'd love an update!

I have a checkup on July 26 so I will inquire then. I dealt with it this long I dont see any need to make a special appointment. Thanks for the concern & input. I would think without xrays or something they cant tell me much, but you never know. I did recently have my annual bone scan done tho so maybe~

I would try and massage the area especially if you feel stiffness. Everyday try and massage it and see if in a few weeks it is better. It has been a year since my transplant(actually in a few weeks) and I have stiffness still in my arm but after working it out daily the stiffness is practically gone and I have better range of motion.

Hey Melissa,

I am not sure if this would cause any pain in your shoulder or not, but I know with myself I have a build up of scar tissue in my shoulders from PICC lin insertions. They have had difficulty in placing my PICCs the last 2 times I have been in the hospital because of the tissue blocking their passage. I wanted to mention that because maybe you have some scar tissue that is causing discomfort - like I said I don't even know if that would cause pain or discomfort but figured I would put that out there.

Also it may be something unrelated to CF or your PICC, I say if it continues to bother you make an appt with a orthopedic doc or someone that deals with shoulder/upper extremity issues/problems.

Hope it starts feeling better,
Lindsey

Is it possible that the arm that hurts you is the arm that moves the mouse around? I know if I sit for a long time on the computer my shoulder of the mouse arm hurts a lot. So I think my problem was there to begin with from another source but became aggravated by using my mouse. I even have a mouse that has many commands but it does not help too much.

Its not my right arm which is the side I use the mouse with & most of my computer time is on the laptop with I dont use a regular mouse for It did "pop/crack" today which made it feel a lot better. Maybe I will luck out this time....

Going to the doc is a good idea... it might be several things... many which others suggested. A couple others.

Rotator cuff injury - in fact I have that right now and physical therapy is the treatment.

Ciatic nerve ( not sure spelled correctly) - it can get pinched, not sure what the recourse is for this, but something to check into.

Good luck

Hi Jazzy...it's good that you are seeing your doc soon. I have chronic problems with my shoulders, tendonitis and arthritis and get PT on them twice a week. CF related? Who knows...as far as the PICC line goes and your shoulder pain and popping hey you never know if those two are connected. Please keep us updated...I hope you get relief soon. I will be thinking of you for sure. Hugs, Jenn<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
