Ditto what Heather said. We've been doing some form of "prophylactic" airway clearance since our daughter was a toddler. It's all she's ever known so it gets done just like brushing her teeth, no big deal.

I think of it as shaking lose any possible mucus or bacteria so it cannot settle in the lungs. My daughter is almost 6 and she doesn't cough during the vest session or any other time unless she has a cold (although we have her do the huffing during the session, it isn't productive unless she has a cold).
