I don't think there are any other brands of allergy med that do what singulair does--might be wrong though.
There are ways to approach allergic reactions:
leukotrienes (singulair)
histamine (claritin, allergra, zertec)
IgE (xolair)
mast cell (sodium cromolyn)

Check out SaveFerris2009's blog for more explanation. Particularly how to approach the histamine stuff.

Thanks so much for all the information. I love this board. I should have been more specific about Alexa's (dd) symptoms. Her eyes are very itchy, stuffy nose, can't breath well at night, etc. She had a test a year before she was diagnosed with CF and it came back she was allergic to many things. I'm really confused because CF center told us for a whole year to use Benadryl. Now this ENT Dr who has some knowledge about CF told us to stop Benadryl and use Singulair. She has been taking it for 3 days. I still need to know why CF center was ok with Benadryl. The ENT dr. said Singulair wouldn't dry the mucus like Benadryl.

I take a zyrtec durring the day and a singulair at night (it makes me sleepy) however a friend had a daughter who was taking it and it hyped her up...LOL...
No bad reaction here and I've been taking it on and off for years.
