Sinus infection

My daughter just had a CT scan done last week and the results showed that her lungs are in excellent conditions, but her sinus is very bad. I always thought that sinus is associated with headaches, bad cough, running nose, bad breath etc.... She doesn't show any of these symptoms but her doctor said that he doesn't know how she is able to smell anything.... How can this be possible? Are any of you experiencing the same diagnostic without any symptoms. Should I be considering surgery?.... Just need your opinion on this one. (She is 6 years old R553x and delta 508)

ya my CT scans look pretty horrible too.

My smelling is so good i can smell things that 99% of other people can't. no headaches for me as I use an intranasal steroid (without it i get headaches though).

my lungs are in good condition too. so i dunno what to tell you - just wanted you to know that your daughter isn't alone.

why did she get a CT scan? usually docs don't just order those out of the blue. was there something else he was looking for?

one thing about sinuses is that the bacteria there can saturate the lungs and cause lung issues (new colonized bacteria) so it's def smart to keep on top of those sinuses <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am actually having some problems with my sinuses as well. I do NOT have loss of smell or taste (and dont think I have bad breath). I havent had a CT scan but I am thinking about seeing an ENT. My CF doc mentioned surgery and if your daughter is THAT blocked up, she probably cant breathe. If you do decide to have surgery then you will probably both notice a HUGE difference. My most recent nasal activity, feels like its been here forever. I just dont really know when it started.

when i was a little kid i had three sinus surgeries. CF has a tendancy to create nasal polyps which in turn leads to blockage and infection. (don't remember exactly why this is). i couldn't smell and had constant stuffy noses.

i always remember what a revelation it was to get the surgery and be able to breathe!!!! lots of people have sinus issues and blockage, it's definitely not just tied to CF.

the good news is, there is SOOO much you can do about sinuses!

when i hit puberty for some reason my sinus problems seemed to subside. but ever since then i have used lots of products to clean them out. i wholly recommend sinus rinse, an over the counter saline rinse you can get at walgreens. ask your sinus doctor to prescribe something. if these don't do the trick and it does turn out your little one needs further help like surgery it is a simple and doable operation.
