sinus questions

For anyone with cf related sinus problems, besides irrigating your sinuses with daily sinuses rinses from Neil Med, do you use any type of antibiotic in your sinuses?

I have the Pari SinuStar Nebulizer and use Pulmozyme once a day through that nebulizer, but I really feel like I need an antibiotic (besides oral or iv). I don't do well with IV Tobramycin or Tobi, so I was wondering if anyone used anything different for their sinuses.

I had my 2nd sinus surgery in Dec of 08 and need another one and I really was so sick after my last surgery that I would like to do anything I can to avoid another sinus surgery, given that it made my sinuses much worse. I get sinus pain and headaches all the time now and I never did before.

Thanks,
Michelle

You could try using water soluble oil of oregano drops in the rinse. Oil of oregano is a natural antibiotic.

Also, maybe try a different way to rinse the sinuses. I use the Hydropulse. It is different than just a squeeze bottle or netipot in that it pulses the solution into your nose.....it is supposed to replicate the way normal cilia would work.

I have tried different methods of rinses and I like this one alot. It is expensive ($99 last time I looked), but they have a form to print out for your insurance company to cover it, which mine did.

Hope that helps.

I wash my nose out using a grossen attachment on a waterpik and have found it to be helpful. Due to bacteria growth I also do rinses with a Gentamycin wash that is compounded especially for this.
