Sinuses...

Hi guys,

Ok - I'm sort of a sinus newbie. I've always had sinus issues technically - I had a CT scan 10 years ago, and the Dr said I was bascially breathing through a pinhole. I've never felt pressure and pain before though... until this past year. It seems every time that I am off antibiotics for a couple of weeks, the pressure and pain in my sinuses returns.

In an effort to stay off antibiotics for more than a few weeks, I went to an ENT. I already do Neilmed sinus rinses, and a steroid nasal spray. I always breathe out of my nose when I do my nebulizers, too, since that way some can go through my nasal passages.

Anyhow, I've heard about CFers doing all these antibiotic nasal rinses, and was hoping maybe that would help me. The ENT did a scope in the office -- just to my nose/throat - and said that looked really good... probably b/c of my obsession w/ the sinus rinsing and constant nose blowing. He said an antibiotic nasal rinse would only help post-surgery, since pre-surgery the sinuses aren't open... and the abx rinse would just go primarily down my throat.

He wasn't necessarily recommending surgery, but wants a current CT scan, and then consider all factors... like how often my sinuses are causing me to need antibiotics...

Does anyone have any feedback or experience?

Thanks as always,
Kris

Hi. I am just seeing your post from July of 2007. Did you ever have the endiscopic sinus surgery? I have a son age 10 with cf and they want to do that surgery on him even though he does not have provoking symptoms. I am not sure he should have it. They say once you do you will probably have to have them often. Can you give me some input on what you have learned? Thank you. Mary

Hi Mary,

I only posted that yesterday... I joined in July 2007 <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The ENT is considering surgery now because I now am getting sinus pressure and pain - and that is causing me to more frequently be on antibiotics. I'm looking for more input on whether or not to have the surgery as well.

Previously, because my sinuses weren't symptomatic, the ENT always advised against surgery.

I'll keep you updated with anything that I learn!

I goofed. I see I looked at the wrong date. How embarrasing. I just put up a post regarding endoscopic sinus surgery. Please refer to that. Is the surgery you are contemplating the same?
You say your ent advised against it in the past since you had no troublesome symptoms....same as my son...so I wonder why they say he shoud have it???
