Specialists Communicating with each other? or are you the go-between??

Because we go to two different clinics, which aren't affiliated with each other, I fill out a release of information form after each appointment and have a copy of the doctor's notes, cultures, labs faxed or mailed to the doctors.

I would hate to be the go-between. Luckily all of our doctors are at least affiliated with our children's in some way, so they all have access to the children's hospital system and can get all the notes. I always ask the in-patient attending to send copies to both CF and our pedi. And anything done in the ER or at the pedi that requires antibiotics MUST contact CF for advice before prescribing. An ER doc who was seeing us for a burst ear drum when Alyssa was a baby told us it was important for us to always remind the other docs to contact CF. He was very knowledgeable about CF and knew that they needed to call the shots.

My ent, gi dr. and my cf clinic are at 3 different hospitals, my allergist is independent. ALL of my doctors send updates (including bloodwork) on my regular appointments to my cf clinic. Sometimes if they want bloodwork and they know (through me) that I will be having bloodwork at clinic, they send a note with me (if time is short) or contact clinic directly and clinic sends them my results instead of me getting poked (and pay) twice.

Nope, I don't think you should have to be the go-between, but I would keep up and make sure your doctors are aware of the other doctor's findings (aka, reading the chart updates <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ). And after surgery, I would EXPECT my ent to contact clinic. Good luck!

I do not think you should have to be the go-between in this way! Even though the drs are at different hospitals, they can and should still be able to keep in communication with each other. All of Emily's drs do... they cc notes and reports to each other as posted above when she has testing and after her appts (not all of her specialists are affiliated with one place.) Timothy's out of state specialist cc's his reports to both of his in-state providers as well.
