sporonox

Hey guys!

Is anyone on now, or has anyone been on Sporonox? I'm on it to clear aspergillus. I'm not really seeing any changes in my cough. I was in the hospital for two weeks, and at first they thought I was allergic to it, but later found out that I wasn't. Anywho...is there anyone who's on it that's having a bad appetite? I'm on many different meds and I read somewhere that Sporonox can suppress your appetite. I used to have the appetite of a horse, and now eating full meals can be a bit much for me.

Any input on this would be awesome <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter is 8 and has CF. She is currently in the hospital for IV meds. This is the 4th out of the last 6 weeks we have been in. They finally did a bronch and found she has a fungus called scediosporum. They put her on Sporanox for this. She has also had aspergillus in the past. She has definitely lost some of her appetite as well. I dont really notice too much of a difference with anything else. She has only been on this for about 4 days. If anything else pops up I will let you know.

Good Luck!

you need to be on sporanox for at least 3 months to see any change. it doesnt affect my appetite but ive heard tummy upsets etc are very common. you need regular liver function tests while on sporanox too.

I was on sporonax for aspergillus and had such an upset stomache and couldn't eat that I went off of it. Make sure you weigh the pros and cons of staying on it and possibly losing weight (that we sometimes can't afford to loose). Some doctors don't treat aspergillus because they don't see it as a major threat, so you could discuss with your doc if its worth the possible weight loss. Also, I think there are pills out there to stimulate appetite, but you'd have to ask your doc. Good luck!
