Spreading MRSA to non-cfers

anyone, even without a compromised immune system, is susceptible to MRSA skin infections.

all it takes is an opening in the skin.... MRSA is community acquired now, meaning that it impacts the general population, not just those with lowered immune systems or other co-mobidities.

we've seen it with athletic teams - those are young, 20 something year old guys who are otherwise the epitome of health. and they get MRSA skin infections.

so cancer or no cancer, old or young, doesn't matter.... MRSA can impact each and every person on this planet.

We just had a case of Impetigo run through our house (skin infection mostly commonly caused by Staph bacteria). Our other son's Hematologist happened to see our son just as we were discovering the problem.

As it turned out for us, the infection was actually strep versus Staph. But, the doctor said that 20% of all Staph infections in this country are now MRSA. As Amy said, MRSA is fully in the populace now. And, it lives in the nasal passages, even in healthy individuals. If he's getting a skin infection, it could be Staph. And, if its Staph, there's a 20% chance its MRSA, even if he didn't get it from you.
