Sputum

Hiya

I do not have CF...my daughter does... but I do have bronchiectasis and apba. I get black dots when I have a flare up of apba. Normally I have "regular" sputum but this is different... it is dots (sometimes pin head size up to match head size) that I can feel as I am coughing up. A whole lot can come up at once or sometimes just the one or a few. It is fungus ( I think they call them casts) and they are grose. If I am having V Fend (anti fungal drug) and prednisolone..I will cough them up for days on end while ususally feeling crappy, feverish. Your blood IGE will tell you if it is aspergillus. I would definately have ige levels taken and your sputum checked cos damage is being done. It is freaky..I agree.
Good luck

Thanks everyone for your replies, Jans description is the best the dots are only the size of a match head and kind of stringy defo not blood or food cos I've had both of those before. There is very little of it just one dot per physio session, really tiny. So I suppose I better ring the cf nurse. Thanks again.
