SSDI interview

Thanks, Karen...

I actually filled out the work and disability report online and just electronically sent it in. Will they just go through that with me? Or, will I need to bring all the data I added to go through it again with them? For example, I listed all my docs, addys and meds on the form, do I need to bring all that in again?

How long did the interview take? Did you do it in person or on the phone?

I did my interview over the phone. It was 4 years ago, so honestly I don't remember it. Nothing comes to mind, other than just going over the paperwork. They didn't drill me with questions that I hadn't seen before. I don't remember how long the interview took. Sorry, that wasn't very helpful at all!

Hello, my name is Candi, and I had a phone interview this last January, I live in Missouri so dont know if each state is different or not. They asked me some pretty specific questions... not to scare you but to prepare you... they asked do I clean, go to the grocery store, how long do I go shopping for, if I cook how long can I stand for while cooking, who does the house cleaning, can I push or pull without complications.... it was really crazy some of the stuff they were asking me. I Just answered them as best as I could, my doctor sent some really good notes so I was approved in just 3 months, my fev1 was around 40-50 % at the time... now that I have been home my fev1 was 64% and climbing.... soo good luck!Dissability has been a blessing for me!!I hope everything goes smoothly for you... if you have any questions pm me, I would love to help out.

I, too, am trying for disability. I got some good tips from someone else who got disability. Basically, they don't care about your diagnosis, what they're looking for is WHY you cannot work a 40 hr. workweek.

I was advised to pull together and type up lists that will help them see how your illness has impacted your ability to work and have the lists go back for the past couple of years, or more, if possible. These lists include: a list of infections/illnesses you've had or have and the treatment you've received or are receiving; a list of all your doctor appts./bloodwork appts./ other testing appts., surgeries etc.; a list with the names and addresses of all the doctors you've seen in the past couple of years; and any other information you can think to pull together.

Basically, I tried to overwhelm them with information so that they can see that no way can I hold down a job given all the times I've been sick, had to go to a dr.'s appt., get bloodwork etc. For instance, when I pulled together a list of doctor appts. etc. that I've had to attend for the past 4 years and, typed it up single spaced, it came out to 17 pages!! It's information like that that will drive home to them how much of your life is taken up by your illness and it's ramifications.

I don't know about you, but I feel like dealing with my health problems IS a full time job, what with all the different dr. appts., taking my medicine treatment , keeping track that my insurance company pays the bills right, etc. etc., while still trying to do some light housework, cooking etc. Actually, life was much simpler BEFORE I got sick!!
