With SSI, they will count the money you earn and will probably not be able to keep the SSI. They have a formula though. If you have a ticket to work, use it. You can get training as well, paid for. If you also get SSA (SSDI) you will be able to keep it for 9 months (trial work period) and keep your medicare for 5 years. If at anytime during the 5 year period, you find yourself unable to work you can get right back on it. Without the 2 year wait to be approved. Also while you are using your ticket you will not be re-evaluated, to see if your condition has gotten better. (you know the every year or so meeting.

Courtney....do you have a skill or any interests? Are you receiving SSDI and SSI or just SSI? You are in a difficult situation and I certainly hope you get some good advice here. I applaud you for trying to change your situation.

Skye, You are correct. It is tough to try to work with a little one and still care for yourself. I am 32 and when I had my daughter I stopped working because there was no way I could do everything. I was able to maintain my health for years. I realize now that even when the kids are older it is difficult. I got my education hoping that it would lead to a less stressful work environment. Yes, it will (when I start working) but, my health is declining and I think it is so easy for us to not prioritize Our health. Especially when we are caring for children and a family.

It is a tough spot to be in. I gave information about the SSI because I worked with Ticket to work and I have used my ticket. I have my Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Feel free to ask questions, if I know them I will let you know. Most of what I know will be California related.
