We met his new pulmonologist yesterday and really liked her. She prescribed one puff of albuterol and 2 of flovent twice a day. Cash really doesn't like the mask over his face. I was hoping someone had a little trick that made it easier. He is fine when we do the albuterol but fights the flovent. I hate this and want to make it easier for the both of us. He will be 2 in January so he is old enought o fight it and too young to understand it.

Thanks for advice.

Are you using the spacer with the mask attached? My daughter also takes flovent & we had to make it a gam of who can breathe in the deepest so they can blow out the hardest for the first few times of the spacer with the mask.

I hope he gets better with it.

We use nebulized medicines, and Katy was a little bit older (3 years old) when she was diagnosed, BUT - when our nebulizers first arrived, we dumped the masks, neb cups, hoses, etc. out and let our two girls "play" with them until the novelty wore off. Katy performed "breathing treatments" on her babies. We have an extra mask that Katy still uses to give her babies a treatment now and again. Making a game out of it at this age is a great idea; perhaps he could give one of his stuffed animals some treatments.

We reward cooperation with reading books, etc. This eventually will become just part of his routine but I don't envy you - two years old is a tough age!

Thank you for the advice. He loves to put it on his bear and mommy, but still not keen on himself. He pushes it off or twists his head away. Then I don't know how much of the medicine he is getting. He has started coughing more. Does that usually happen when they first start out? I know they said the flovent should take about a week to start working. This is all so frustrating. I just keep telling myself 'This too shall pass' ... Ofcourse then something else will come along<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
